Tuesday 6th November - Frickley Athletic 0-3 Dinnington
Town
How many times does a former player prove to be a match
winner when
returning to play against Frickley? Michael Blythen, who once scored for the
Blues in a Sheffield Senior Cup tie, produced a hat trick to deservedly take
Dinnington through from this 2nd round tie.
Unfortunately, Frickley have lost their pattern and Tomas
Osbourne was
never extended in the Town goal, while the visiting forwards were
allowed too much freedom around the penalty area.
Danny Walsh lashed a 35 yard drive just over in the seventh
minute and
then had a flying header saved by Osbourne a minute later, while Lee
Morris picked out Andy Hayward with a pinpoint 40 yard crossfield pass
in the 13th minute, only for the striker to put an angled 15 yard
drive wide.
Dinnington weathered the storm before taking the lead on
the half hour
with only their second threatening raid. Martin Wade got down the
right and put in a cross which saw an unmarked Blythen beat Jon Hood
with a ten yard header.
Craig Marsh went past a defender in the 37th minute and
appeared to be
upended, but appeals for a penalty fell on deaf ears as they tend to
do when your luck is out, while Walsh, Marsh and Morris combined
smoothly four minutes later to set up Hayward but he fired wide from
the edge of the penalty area.
There was a flying start for Town in the second half, Wade
again
providing a pass for Blythen who, although he mishit his shot, saw the
ball bobble past Hood and just inside the near post after 47 minutes.
A smooth Blues attack in the 65th minute found Marsh on the
edge of
the penalty area, only for his shot to lack power and accuracy.
It was completely opposite to Blythen's third goal four minutes later,
a scorching 35 yard volley leaving Hood stranded and putting the
result beyond doubt.
Lee Dawson picked out Hayward in the 75th minute, only for
him to fire
straight at Osbourne, while the ball switched to the other end a
minute later and Hood went full stretch to smother an angled 15 yard
shot by Lewis Axcell.
While Hayward and Walsh had efforts saved in the closing
stages, the
final whistle was a welcome relief.
