Saturday 9th November - Frickley Athletic 3-0 Colwyn Bay

With Paul Marquis, Craig Elkin and Nigel Henstock all injured, Jon Wordworth returned to the centre of defence with Remo Nesa playing down the right. Lee Morris was moved into midfield alongside Mark Hancock.

After a fairly even start Colwyn Bay had a great chance to take the lead on 13 minutes when Marc Limbert picked out Deiniol Graham with a free-kick from the right but Graham's header from 10 yards out was well saved by Mark Samways. The Blues had, up until now, only managed a few dangerous crosses with no-one on the end of them. But on 15 minutes Nesa showed signs of better things to come when he volleyed wide of the right hand post from 18 yards following a corner by Ryan Williams which was punched clear by Paul Smith. Morris then turned well on the edge of the box but his touch was just too strong, which enabled Smith to collect at his feet. On 21 minutes Andy Evans headed over from close range following Curtis Bernard's cut-back from left of the box. On 32 minutes a good move started by Hancock saw the ball played in to Morris on the edge of the box. He then fed the overlapping Williams but his angled left-foot shot from 15 yards was turned round the post by Smith. However, the Blues finally got their reward a minute later when Bernard headed the ball into the path of Morris inside the box and he had his leg caught from behind as he tried to shoot. The Referee immediately pointed to the spot and HANCOCK stepped up to convert the penalty.

It took the Blues just three minutes of the second half to increase their lead. The visitors had threatened more in those three minutes but when the Blues were awarded a free-kick on the right hand side, Hancock sent over a cross which bounced through everyone in the box to WILLIAMS at the back post who looped a header over Smith and into the net. Three minutes later Chris Gowen played the ball in from the left and MORRIS steered it past Smith to put the Blues three up. Duncan Richards, Williams and later Hancock were all subjected to some nasty tackles as frustration started to appear in the Bay side. The Blues went close again on 67 minutes when Bernard lifted the ball into the box for Evans but Smith sliced the ball clear with his feet. Evans recovered it and teed up Williams but his shot from 20 yards went over the bar. Two minutes later Bernard sent over a cross-cum-shot from near the left corner flag which Smith missed but the ball drifted fractionally wide of the far post. Bay's Limbert went close to scoring a consolation goal on 82 minutes but he dragged his 20 yard shot wide of the left hand post whilst at the other end Evans turned inside a defender on the edge of the box before shooting wide. Morris then did well to wriggle past a couple of challenges to get into the box but his shot was charged down. Williams then saw his powerful volley from the edge of the box brilliantly turned away by Smith as the Blues seemed intent on adding a fourth goal. On 90 minutes Nesa saw his low 18 yards shot easily saved by Smith whilst almost three minutes into injury time Bay's Deiniol Graham saw his 30 yard shot go just wide of the right hand post. Then right at the death Bernard missed a great chance to score when he got clear into the box, checked back past a challenge but then shot over from 6 yards.
