Saturday 3rd November - Frickley Athletic 1-2 Colwyn Bay

They say in football you make your own luck, and Frickley's is at rock bottom after this defeat by Bay in the FA Trophy 2nd qualifying round.

The Blues gifted the Division 1 South side a brace of goals midway through the first half, and then found themselves fighting an uphill battle to try and get on terms.

There were enough chances for them to have turned the tables but, when the ball is not running for you, it's really difficult to get onto a winning streak.

Ryan Morton put an angled 20 yard drive into the side netting after a neat Frickley build up in the seventh minute, but Colwyn took the lead after 15 minutes, a corner from the left being stabbed in from close range by Lewis Callaghan.

Chris White forced a good save from Jamie Speare before the visitors improved their advantage in the 28th minute.

Chris Hilton, having been robbed by John Lawless a minute earlier, when the ball struck the bar, made a hash of another challenge and saw Lawless poke the ball past John Hood.

A shot from Lee Morris was diverted off the line before the visiting goal had a let-off in the 38th minute. Morris beat Speare in a chase for the ball and collected it out wide and put it back for Morton, whose shot zipped across the face of goal and just wide of the far post.

Three minutes later, Steve Robinson found Neil Redfearn who clipped the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

Speare tipped a header from Morris over the top two minutes after the interval as the Blues made an effort to get on terms, while the keeper also saved from Morton and Craig Marsh.

A shot from Morris was deflected onto the bar in the 61st minute while Andy Hayward ballooned over from six yards before Redfearn went close with a 25 yard drive.

Hopes were raised in the 72nd minute as Morton rifled in a 20 yarder, but Bay hung on with Speare getting down quickly to block an angled shot from Robinson in the 84th minute.
