Friday 10th February - Frickley Athletic  4-2  Chorley

This match is available on DVD/Video - See Club Shop

Gary Marrow made a couple of changes to the side with Phil Lindley and James Stansfield forming the central defensive pairing with Steve Kennedy on the subs. bench and Matt Daly suspended. Chris Adam came in for his first start on the left in place of Martyn Woolford whilst Richard Tracey started up front alongside Andy Evans.

Chorley had the first attempt at goal with less than sixty seconds on the clock but Gary Ingham reacted well to push Peter Wright's low shot round the post from 8 yards. Minutes later Tracey had a good chance from 18 yards but saw his shot clear the cross bar. Evans then intercepted a weak back pass down the right of the Chorley box but, after pushing the ball past Chorley 'keeper Phil Priestley he was denied by a great last ditch tackle. The corner was half cleared to Alex Callery on the right and his crossed was flicked on by Stansfield to Tracey at the far post but he miss-hit his shot straight at Priestley from 6 yards. Chorley took the lead on 28 minutes when John Bluck found space on the edge of the box to fire in an angled shot which deflected off Lindley and past the stranded Ingham. The Blues deservedly equalised on 37 minutes when Callery's free-kick from the left was helped on by Adam to STANSFIELD who lashed the ball into the roof of the net from 6 yards. Just before half time Wright had another chance for Chorley but he snatched at his shot from the edge of the box, allowing Ingham to gather comfortably.

The second half was barely 3 minutes old when the Blues took the lead. Callery whipped in another free-kick from the right and STANSFIELD powered his header just inside the near post to give Priestley no chance click here for video clip. The lead lasted just 8 minutes as Steve Robinson brought Wright down inside the box and Wright dusted himself down to beat Ingham from the penalty spot. However, within 2 minutes TRACEY seized on a loose ball on the edge of the Chorley box to lash an unstoppable shot past Priestley to give the Blues the lead for the second time. Former Aston Villa centre half and now Chorley player/manager Shaun Teale lashed an 18 yard shot over the bar after 65 minutes. Marrow then brought on Pell and Woolford for Tracey and Evans and within minutes Woolford broke down the left to send over a great cross which Callery met at the near post but Priestley somehow kept out. From the resulting corner Lindley met Callery's cross with a powerful goal-bound header which Priestley again worked wonders to keep out. The Blues added a fourth goal on 88 minutes when Woolford failed to control Pell's cross from the right but CALLERY pounced to beat Priestley from 8 yards (click here for video clip). The Blues were now threatening to run riot with Pell and Adam exchanging passes for the latter to find himself clear but Priestley was out quickly to blocked his shot from 6 yards. Minutes later Callery threaded a pass through for the impressive Adam but Priestley again denied him, this time with his legs from 15 yards.
