Saturday 9th August - Bridlington Town 2-0 Frickley Athletic

The Blues completed their pre-season warm-up games with a 2-0 defeat at Bridlington Town on a very hot and sunny afternoon.

Frickley started brightly but it was the home side who should have taken the lead after 10 minutes when a cross from the left found Danny Drayton unmarked but his header went well wide of the goal. The Blues' first good opportunity came after 22 minutes when Lee Morris was fouled some 25 yards out but Remo Nesa's well placed free-kick was brilliantly pushed around the post by former Frickley keeper Gavin Kelly. Three minutes later Curtis Bernard did well to break into the box from the left and his strong ball across the six yard box struck a defender and bounced towards goal but Kelly recovered to save on the line. Right on the stroke of half time the home side took the lead when the Blues failed to clear, leaving Paul farley to slot the ball under Samways and into the net.

Half time saw the introduction of Steve Robinson in place of Antony Jackson who was suffering with two large wasp stings on his ankles. Bridlington came close to extending their lead on the hours but Drayton's flicked header hit the foot of the post with Samways stranded. A minute later Lee Morris got clear but Kelly raced out of his box to block Morris' shot whilst Phil Sharpe then made a double substitution, replacing Gary Hatto and Lee Pugh with Paul Hurrell and Mark Vickarage. Almost immediately Brid's Shaun Baker tripped Chris Kamara in the box and the referee immediately awarded a penalty. Baker was extremely lucky to still be on the pitch after deliberately elbowing Kamara minutes earlier in front of the referee and only receiving a stern lecture. Morris stepped up to take the spot-kick but he dragged his shot wide of the left hand post. On 67 minutes it was Brid's turn to be awarded a penalty when Robinson tripped Drayton in the box but Samways saved Martin Thacker's penalty. The Blues almost snatched an equaliser on 79 minutes when Paul Marquis' sent a long ball forward which Morris seized on and lobbed the keeper only for a defender to block the ball with his knee. Morris retrieved it and laid it back to Ryan Till, whose cross was fired into the side netting from 6 yards by Hurrell. Right at the death the home side scored a second when a cross from the left was headed in at the near post by an unmarked Drayton.

Frickley Athletic : Samways, Pugh (Vickarage 64), O'Brien, Richards (Pugh 90), Jackson (Robinson 45), Marquis, Kamara (Till 77), Nesa (Kamara 86), Morris, Bernard, Hatto (Hurrell 64)
