Friday 27th January - Frickley Athletic 6-2 Bradford Park Avenue This match is available on DVD/Video - See Club Shop Martyn Woolford netted twice with Rob Pell, Simon Collins, Andy Evans and Chris Adam also scoring as the Blues ran out 6-2 winners over Bradford Park Avenue this evening in front of the Millennium Worldwide Stadium's second highest crowd of the season. The win closes the gap on leaders North Ferriby United to just 2 points. Despite Lee Pugh being available again after serving his none-match suspension Gary Marrow kept faith with the same eleven that won at Prescot Cables last Saturday, although Pugh did get a place on the subs. bench. With just 2 minutes on the clock Simon Collins crossed from the right with Rob Pell meeting the ball with a first time 20 yard shot which forced Neil Thompson into a fine one-handed save to push the ball over the bar. The Blues forced a series of corners and, from the fourth of these the ball feel to ROB PELL who, with his back to goal, sent in an overhead kick which looped over Thompson and into the far corner of the net to give the Blues the lead with 4 minutes gone (click here for video). Three minutes later the Blues doubled their lead as Alex Callery whipped in a free-kick which saw both COLLINS dart in to head past Thompson from 12 yards. Within minutes it could have been three nil as Callery played a short corner to Neil Ashley who cut inside a defender before firing in an angled shot from the edge of the box which Thompson couldn't hold but as Andy Evans tried to lunge for the loose ball Thompson recovered enough to deny him. Pell then picked out Evans with a great ball which just evaded Walsh but Evans blazed wide from the edge of the box. The Blues were rampant now and it came as no surprise when EVANS siezed on a poor back-pass from Niall O'Brien to side-step Thompson and roll the ball into an empty net after 20 minutes (Click here for video). Pell headed inches over following a Callery free-kick from the right hand edge of the box whilst the same player saw his low 18 yard shot again fumbled by Thompson but the loose ball was just out of Evans' reach before Thompson collected it. Bradford had their first real attempt at goal after 32 minutes but Craig Smith's well struck free-kick from 25 yards was comfortably dealt with by Gary Ingham. Within minutes the Blues should have added to the scoreline as Thompson only weakly punched clear a high ball which felkl to Callery 25 yards out. He chipped the ball towards the left hand post where Evans could only diver the ball just the wrong side of the post from 6 yards. However, the Blues fourth goal came shortly afterwards on 35 minutes as Pell held the ball up well before feeding MARTYN WOOLFORD who drilled a low shot into the bottom left hand corner from 18 yards (click here for video). Bradford made a double substitution five minutes before the break as Chris Siddall and Tom Greaves replaced O'Brien and Brook Newton but seconds later the Blues went close again as Woolford headed Callery's free-kick just wide of the left hand post. As the second half started the Blues carried on from where they'd left off in the first as on 49 minutes Pell picked out WOOLFORD in space on the left and he took the ball on to the edge of the box before rifling his shot passed Thompson into the bottom right hand corner. Bradford pulled a goal back on 58 minutes when Rodney Rowe flicked on Siddall's long ball for Greaves to stab the ball past Ingham only for the ball to come back off the right hand post but GREAVES reacted quickest to bundle the ball over the line. Gary Marrow made a double substitution, replacing Ashley and Pell with Phil Lindley and Chris Adam with the latter making an instant impact to score the Blues' sixth goal on 71 minutes. Andy Evans sent over a cross from the right of the box which Lindley headed back across goal for ADAM to head in from 5 yards. Lindley went close with a shot from the edge of the box before Matt Daly brought down Bernard inside the Blues' box and Walsh stepped up to convert the penalty with ten minutes left to play.
