Wednesday 26th October - Bradford Park Avenue 1-4 Frickley Athletic

The Blues comfortably brushed away the challenge of Bradford Park Avenue as the 4-1 victory consolidated their second position in the table with Andy Evans grabbing a hat-trick.

With Steve Robinson serving a one-match suspension for accumulating 5 bookings Simon Collins came into the side as centre half, with Phil Lindley moving to right full-back. Andy Evans was preferred up front in place of Leroy Chambers whilst Martyn Woolford was fit enough for a place on the subs. bench.

Both teams started positively and the Blues had loud claims for a penalty turned down as early as the tenth minute when Alex Callery appeared to be brought down as he burst into the box but the referee wasn't impressed. However, CALLERY was involved again four minutes later when he latched onto Ashley Scothern's pass to beat former Frickley player Dean Jones and then score past another former Blues' player, Mark Wilkinson, from 15 yards. Minutes later Gary Ingham had to be alert to push Brook Newton's 20 yard drive around the post at the other end. Another good Blues move almost led to a second goal on 30 minutes when Calum Selby played the ball inside Avenue full back Chris Siddall for Scothern who broke clear down the left of the box and fired in a powerful shot from a tight angle which Wilkinson did well to block at his near post. However, on 35 minutes Lee Pugh sent over a high cross from the right which deceived Wilkinson at his far post, allowing EVANS to head the ball in from a tight angle.. On the stroke of half time Evans and Pugh combined on the edge of the box for Evans to fire in a shot which Wilkinson did well to push around the post.

The second half started slower and the hosts had a glimmer of hope but Ingham saved Calcutt's 25 yard free-kick on 64 minutes. But within a minute the Blues all but made the game safe as Selby again threaded a ball through for Scothern who cut it back to Callery from the right of the box and Callery found EVANS who made no mistake from 8 yards. The home side rallied briefly with Alex Nesovic scoring from close range after Newton had picked him out following Calcutt's cross from the right, but the Blues were soon back on the offensive. A double substitution on 79 minutes led to the Blues' fourth goal as Leroy Chambers flicked Pugh's pass into the path of Woolford who raced away down the left before rolling the ball across the box for EVANS to complete his hat-trick from 15 yards. Woolford then went close himself but his 20 yard shot was deflected just wide of the right hand post with Wilkinson stranded.
