Wednesday 19th November - Boston United 2-3 Frickley Athletic

A second consecutive away success at Boston lifted Frickley into 14th position in the UniBond Premier Division.

The Blues swept into a three goals lead before allowing the Pilgrims to narrow the gap with strikes immediately before and after the interval, although the home side's momentum was affected when Matt Bloomer received a straight red card in the 56th minute.

Lee Morris was in superb form for the visitors, beating two defenders and rifling in a 20 yard drive to give his side an eighth minute advantage, and he went round keeper Martyn Margarson a couple of minutes later but put his effort a whisker wide of the target.

It took a superb goal line clearance from Wes Parker to deny Morris after he had again used his pace and skill to waltz past the keeper and seemed destined to guide the ball into an empty net.

United's new manager Steve Walsh favoured a 3-4-1-2 system, and while Adam Nicklin was brought into action, parrying a shot by Stewart Talbot and seeing Liam Green drill the rebound wide, most of the action was at the ther end.

Frickley improved in the 24th minute when Chris White left Margarson stranded with a sizzling 25 yard shot, while Morris beat the keeper but saw his shot come back off an upright seven minutes later.

When Margarson only flapped at a corner kick in the 37th minute, Morris pounced to guide the ball in from close range and it looked like a case of how many.

To their credit the Pilgrims came back well and reduced the arrears in the 44th minute when Ollie Ryan beat Nicklin with a close range header.

Chris Gowen was replaced by Chris Hilton at half-time, and within a minute of the resumption, Boston had narrowed the gap again, Jon Rowan heading in.

It looked like developing into a nailbiter, but Bloomer was dismissed for apparently elbowing Morris, who was pushing to get a hat trick and he beat Margarson with a fierce shot in the 65th minute only for it to come back off a post.

Despite being a man short, the Pilgrims made a double substitution in the 77th minute in a last gasp effort to snatch a point or even an unlikely victory, but Freickley's defence was in miserly mood and snuffed them out.
