BARROW 2-0 FRICKLEY ATHLETIC

The following report is taken from the Barrow site at www.barrowfc.com. Thanks for their co-operation.

Frickley paid for not making the most of their first half chances, as Barrow once again put in an improved second half performance to claim the points. Doherty started his 400th game for Barrow, which also marked manager Kenny Lowe's 100th in charge.

Frickley started well and Bishop had to turn away a Beckett shot on 6 minutes. Chambers tried a lob but Bishop got a hand to it, then he again saved Barrow by turning a Stratford free kick round the post. After this, the game went quiet for a spell, the next chance falling to Barrow as Housham headed over a Holt cross on the half hour. Frickley were unlucky not to take the lead on 37 minutes when Stratford hit the post, and just before half time Hall headed away a goalbound Beckett shot.

Warren and Ainsley replaced Rogers and Anthony, as Barrow stepped up a gear. Hurst was booked for the visitors and Brown came on for Hanby. Barrow were now running the game, and took the lead on 57 minutes. Hume flicked on a long throw from Maxfield and Peverell turned on the six yard line to score. Minutes later, a Housham header hit the bar. With 15 minutes left, Bishop again saved Barrow as he saved a Stratford shot, but two minutes later the game was safe. A Doherty shot was tipped over and from Doc's corner Hume was unmarked to put in a trademark power header. With five minutes to go, Housham pulled back a ball for Roberts, but it bobbled and his shot was pushed away.

Bishop's Man of the Match award told the story of what might have been, but in the end it was a well-won victory. News that the attendance was above the 1,000 mark for the first time in ages was the icing on the cake!
