Saturday 6th December - Alfreton Town 1-2 Frickley Athletic

The Blues battled their way to their first away League win of the season as the came from behind to overcome hosts Alfreton Town despite being under tremendous pressure during the second half.

Phil Sharpe brought back Steve Robinson into midfield after he was given the go-ahead to start playing again by his specialist and gave a debut to loan signing Scott Brough. Dan Sheriffe partnered Lee Morris up front with Karl Colley replacing the ill Paul Marquis in defence.

Alfreton took the lead with virtually the first attack of the game after 6 minutes when a cross from the right was met by a powerful shot past Mark Samways from Chris Dolby. However, the Blues responded swiftly and equalised on 10 minutes. Brough's ball into the box caused confusion, with Morris feeding Sheriffe whose miss-hit shot squirmed into the path of LEE PUGH who fired in from 6 yards. A minute later the Blues had strong claims for a penalty turned down when Sheriffe was pushed to the ground as he tried to reach a floated cross from Brough which had gone over Alfreton goalkeeper Lee Butler. On 16 minutes a quick break by the Blues saw Morris and Sheriffe exchange passes for MORRIS to break into the box and beat Butler from 15 yards. At the other end Samways stretched to save David Holmes goal-bound effort on 22 minutes whilst seconds later Nick Richardson threaded a ball through for Sheriffe but his angled shot was saved by Butler's legs. Samways then saved a weak shot Holmes before Morris sent Sheriffe clear again but, after pushing the ball passed the advancing Butler he found himself too tight an angled to shoot from so pulled the ball back to Brough whose first time shot was deflected clear by Grant Brown. The Blues then lost Antony Jackson through injury, with Gary Hatto replacing him and Phil Lindley moving to centre defence.

After the break the home side pushed forward much more then they did in the first half and only some wayward finishing prevented them from snatching an equaliser. Morris picked up a hamstring injury and was replaced by Michael Blythen on 57 minutes and seconds later Samways had to be alert to get down and save a low shot from Dolby. Blythne then turned and shot straight at Butler from a tight angle before Alfreton missed a glorious chance to equalise as Michael Godber headed well wide when unmarked in the centre of goal. Dale Rimmington came on to make his debut after 75 minutes, replacing Sheriffe, as Phil Sharpe sacrificed a forward to bolster the midfield. The home side continued to press with the Blues only sporadically breaking away but, for once, the Blues' defence held firm, although on 84 minutes Colley let a through ball go past him, expecting it to travel to Samways but Michael Goddard nipped in and took the ball round Samways but, thankfully, he blazed wide.

Frickley Athletic : Samways, Richards, Lindley, Pugh, Jackson (Hatto 35), Colley, Robinson, Richardson, Morris (Blythen 57), Sheriffe (Rimmington 75), Brough.
