Saturday 14th January - Frickley Athletic 1-0 AFC Telford United Today's game is available on DVD/Video - See Club Shop Alex Callery struck the only goal of the game after 63 minutes as the Blues beat AFC Telford United 1-0 to complete their third 'double' of the season in front of the largest crowd of the season so far at the Millennium Worldwide Stadium. The result sees the Blues 11 points into a play-off place and still five points adrift of leaders North Ferriby United, who have played a game more. Gary Marrow brought Callery, Rob Pell, Simon Collins and fit again captain Steve Kennedy back into the side whilst Neil Ashley and James Stansfield had to be content with a place on the subs. bench alongside new signing Chris Adam. The Blues started the game strongly, forcing a couple of corners in the opening five minutes whilst Callery put a 25 yard free-kick wide of the left hand post. The visitors carved probably their best opportunity of the game after 12 minutes when a cross from the left picked out Marco Addagio inside the Blues' box but he failed to connect properly with his header and Gary Ingham saved comfortably. Matt Daly's deep free-kick picked out Andy Evans at the far post but his header down was kicked away by Telford 'keeper Stuart Brock. Lee Pugh then saw his low 25 yard shot deflect off Andy Evans and wrong-foot Brock but the ball roller just wide of the right hand post with Brock stranded. On 25 minutes Callery's right wing corner was met by Kennedy whose powerful header was somehow kept out by Dean Craven on the line who headed the ball against the underside of the crossbar and then headed it clear, seemingly before it crossed the line. Evans then turned well 6 yards out but his shot was well saved on the line by Brock. The Blues started the second half equally as strongly as the first with Martyn Woolford riding several challenges as he cut in from the left but his final shot from the edge of the box was blocked by a defender. Pell ought to have given the Blues the lead following a corner which Kennedy retrieved and Collins helped on to Pell but he failed to connect properly when well placed 8 yards out. Evans had a claim for a penalty waved away after he went down under the challenge of Ross Collins inside the box with the referee instead awarding the Blues a corner. The Blues forced several more corners before their pressure finally told on 63 minutes following yet another corner. Callery's left wing flag-kick was headed back towards him from the near post with CALLERY hitting the ball first time from the edge of the 18 yard box, just a couple of yards in from the goal-line, and the ball somehow found its way past Brock at his near post (Click here for video clip). This prompted Telford into making a change with James Fox replacing Lee Vaughan and this seemed to spur Telford forward more, although they still failed to create much in front of goal. Addagio did manage to fire a tame angled shot straight at Ingham from 12 yards following a pull-back from Craven but Ingham was largely untroubled. With time fast running out Woolford seized on a wayward defensive header to fire in a first time shot from 25 yards which went wide of the left hand post. Woolford then had a better chance to seal the game when Pugh cleared to Pell who held the ball up well before picking out the run of Woolford down the centre but he shot straight at Brock from 18 yards.
