FRICKLEY ATHLETIC 0-2 ACCRINGTON STANLEY

Steve Richards made 3 changes to the side that beat Mossley on Tuesday with new signing from Gainsborough Trinity, Steve Price, coming into midfield in place of Craig Goodyear, Dean Jones replacing Brendan West in defence and Gary Duffty replacing Duane Beckett up front.

Frickley had the best of the early play with Ian Edge running through the middle to release Tommy Brookes down the left but his cross was easily dealt with by the Stanley defence in the fourth minute. At the other end Mark Brennan shot through a crowded goalmouth but his effort trickled just wide of the post with Mark Wilkinson rooted to the spot. Martin Fox put a low 18 yard drive just wide after 28 minutes with Jamie Speare struggling to get down to it before Stanley's Russell Payne picked up a loose ball on the left hand side of the box and shot across Wilkinson but Mark Lafferty cleared off the line. The last few minutes of the first half saw Stanley begin to dictate the play and they almost took the lead when Brennan headed against the bar from a corner and then on the stroke of half time Wilkinson saved well from Payne.

The second half saw the visitors enjoy more possession than they did in the first and they soon started to look dangerous with it. On 47 minutes Paul Burns latched on to a hopeful ball forward that seemed to bobble past everyone but he shot straight at Wilkinson. Then on 59 minutes Stanley took the lead. Ex Doncaster Rovers forward Gary Williams, who had only been on the field 4 minutes, was left unmarked on the Stanley right and as the ball came over to him he lobbed Wilkinson from 20 yards. Wilkinson denied Williams a second on 79 minutes when he caught his flicked header before substitute Nicky Cranston almost snatched an equaliser for the Blues. He beat 2 men inside the box before firing in a low shot which Speare did well to parry but no-one was on hand to follow up. From the clearance Williams broke down the Stanley left , beat Chris Hilton for pace before cutting inside and firing into the roof of the net from 15 yards in the 86th minute.
